The Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance, published by the HKMA in May 2024, serves as a pivotal framework for classifying sustainable financial products and investments. With a dedicated focus on the building and construction sector, this Taxonomy highlights the need for decarbonisation in the industry. It aims to assist developers, asset owners, operators, financial services professionals, and investors in assessing whether a building contributes to climate change mitigation.
Despite the significance of this tool, the number of transactions referencing the HK Taxonomy remains limited. To address this, the HKGBC and HKGFA have initiated and developed the “Operationalising the Hong Kong Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance: A Guide for the Building and Construction Sector”. This Guide provides practical guidelines to help our sector align with the Taxonomy, offering greater assurance to banks and investors.
